William F. Buckingham

William F. “Bill” Buckingham, age 89, of Lone Oak passed away at 4:36 a.m. Wednesday, December 4, 2019 at the Ray & Kay Eckstein Hospice Care Center. Bill was a member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church for 73 years where he served on various committees. Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Bill was a retired educator, having served McCracken County Schools as: Teacher, Basketball Coach, Assistant Superintendent, and Elementary Principal. Bill’s education career began at Fremont Elementary and Hendron Elementary, then to Central Office where he served as Elementary Supervisor and Assistant Superintendent. Bill’s longest tenure in education was principal at Lone Oak Elementary. Bill retired from Lone Oak High School where he taught American History after his many years in education.

Bill was scorekeeper for Lone Oak High School Basketball for many years and kept the book for many coaches at District and Regional Tournaments through the years. Bill was Past-President of the Lone Oak Lions Club and held many different offices. He served on the eye glass committee, helping those in community who needed glasses and served many years as chairman of the Candy Day Sale. Bill was a member of the Paducah/McCracken County Retired Teachers and the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. Bill served as treasurer of the local retired teachers association for many years. Bill was Loan Officer for the McCracken County Teachers Credit Union and served on the Board for several years. Bill enjoyed watching University of Kentucky Basketball and St. Louis Cardinal Baseball.

Survivors include one daughter, Melody Lady and husband, Sam of Kennesaw, GA; one sister, June Buchanan of Lone Oak; two grand-daughters, Kelly Lady (Andy Shultz) of Lima, OH and Kristy Futscher and husband, Rob, of Lantana, TX; five great- grandchildren, Emery Grace Lang, Charleigh Shultz, Ella Shultz; Cameron Futscher and Carson Futscher; sister-in-law, Kay Buckingham of Memphis, TN; brothers-in-law, Frank Hunt and wife, Model and Jack Hunt and wife Faye; sister-in-law, Glen Hunt; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding in death was his wife, Nancy Hunt Buckingham; parents, Alton Forest “AF” Buckingham & Bonnie Mae Munsell Buckingham; one son, Stuart Buckingham; one brother, Jere Buckingham; brother-in-law, Ben Buchanan; sister-in-law, Betty Stewart and husband Charles; brothers-in-law, Bobby Hunt and Irvin Neal and wife Jean.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 7, 2019 at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with Drs. Jeff Wallace and Willis Henson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
