Virginia Davis

January 16, 1925 — April 4, 2013

Virginia Ellen Knight Davis, 88, a resident of Gaither Suites in Paducah, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2013.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Fountain Avenue United Methodist Church for over 50 years; a member of Rolling Hills Country Club, serving on the Board of Directors and Ladies Golf Association; active in Girl Scout leadership and Paducah Junior Women's Club; and represented the "Statue of Liberty" in the Centennial Pageant in 1956. Her love and expertise in golf made her a champion in many tournaments including a two-time winner in the Paducah Sun Golf Tournament. She was a wonderful cook and made many delicious meals for her family and friends. She even compounded several spices which were sold at the Spice Shack at her daughter's business, Farmer's Farmacy.

Surviving are two daughters, Judy Davenport and husband Wilford of Paducah, and Dianne Carroll and husband Ken of St. Petersburg, Fla.; five grandchildren, Lynn (Mary Lee) Davenport of Bowling Green, Ky., Tara (Richard) Montgomery of Paducah, Cari (Stanley) Wildharber of Ballard County, Roxane (Don) Hendry of Oldsmar, Fla., and John (Heather) Carroll of Southport, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Canaan and Rebecca, Emily and Perry, Will, Elizabeth, Derek, Delaney, Connor, Austin, Blake, Emily and Dane, Allie and Ryan; one brother, Henry Knight; and two sisters, Lou Harvey and Jeanette Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. "Jimmie" Davis; her parents, Milton J. Knight and Willie Shaw Knight; five brothers, M.J. Knight Jr., Bobby Knight, Jimmy Knight, Dalton Knight, Bill Knight; and one sister, Lovette Whalen.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2013, at Milner & Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with the Rev. Dan Leslie officiating. A private burial will be held later at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Visitation will begin at noon on Sunday.
