Vernon Childers, 78, of Ledbetter passed away at 9:15 p.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, at Lourdes hospital.
Mr. Childers was a native of Graves County, Ky., and was a member of Oaklawn Baptist Church.
He worked for James Marine.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Balentine Childers; two daughters, Bebbie Beckman of Illinois and Sherri Pittman (Dale) of Reidland; four sons, Kerry Childers of Paducah, Raymond Fowler (Lisa), Michael Fowler (Renee), and Keith Fowler (Kim); one brother, Mervel Childers of Mayfield; and two sisters, Mary Coley of Paducah and Billi Leitchfield of Lone Oak; several grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald Childers; two sisters; and his parents, Vernon Childers Sr. and Maggie Skillian Childers.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, July 18, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Keeling Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Royce Dukes officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. today at Keeling Family Funeral Home.
