Rufus 'Bob' Gatton, 94, of Paducah, passed away at 10:59 p.m. Sunday, May 26, 2013, at his residence. Bob was a member of Heartland Worship Center, worked as a commodity broker for A.G. Edwards, and retired as a self employed commodity broker. Bob was a U.S. Air Force WWII veteran. He enlisted Dec. 15, 1942. After training he became a B-17 pilot in the 8th Air Force 398th Bomb Group stationed in Nuthampstead, England in August of 1944. He flew 13 combat missions over France and Germany and flew his final mission of the war to Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, on April 25, 1945. Bob was also a member of the VFW and 398th Bomber Group.

Bob is survived by his wife, Shirley Hammonds Gatton; one daughter, Judith A. Hall and husband James of Troy, Ohio; one son, Roger D. Gatton and wife Linda of Wichita, Kan.; two stepdaughters, Kim Hall and husband Kenney of Paducah and Sheila McNichols and husband Kevin of Metropolis, Ill.; 12 grandchildren, James L. Hall of Akron, Ohio, Johnathan W. Hall and wife Becca of Kettering, Ohio, Susan Brochardt and husband Paul of Lawrence, Kan., Benjamin Gatton and wife Jamie of Wichita, Kan., Robert Gatton and Fiancée Sara Bales of Council Grove, Kan., Cory Taustian of St. Louis, William Hatfield and wife Bridie of St. Louis, Brooke Durham and husband Tom of Metropolis, Ill., Brandi Quint and husband Jacob of Metropolis, Ill., Leslie Glass and husband Marc of Dublin, Va., Melissa Paul and husband Buz of Murray, and Kyle McNichols of Orlando Fla.; 12 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie Trexler of Ohio.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville Gatton; and a sister, Wauneta Gatton. His parents were Mason P. and Bessie Rogers Gatton.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2013, at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens with pastor Marc Glass officiating. There will be no visitation. Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
