Neilon Moore

BENTON - Neilon H. Moore, 86, of Benton, Ky., died Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at 10:55 p.m. at Lourdes hospital.

He was born on March 10, 1924, in Arlington, Ky., to the late Lester F. and Bertha Brown Moore. He served in the United States Navy during World War II. Neilon was the first contractor to be granted security clearance by the government for the construction of the Union Carbide plant in the 1950s.

He was a member of Laborers International Union of North America #1214 and was a longtime member of Twelve Oaks Baptist Church. He retired as a labor foreman from Harper Construction.

Surviving are his son, Roger Moore, and wife, Susan F. Moore of Nashville; three grandsons, Tyler Moore, Aaron Moore and Austin Moore, all of Nashville; four sisters, Ella Jensen of Benton, Elaine Stroud, Ann Cooper and Mary Jones, all of Paducah; and a brother, Alfred Moore of Brookport, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Cothran Moore; a sister, Catherine Gupton; and two brothers, James Moore and Glen Moore.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday.
