Herbert Fisher

Herbert Eugene "Gene" Fisher, age 87, of Franklin, Tennessee, formerly of Paducah, Ky., passed away at his residence on September 27, 2010.

A native Kentuckian, Mr. Fisher served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. In 1954, he entered the home building industry and retired after over 45 years as a developer and builder of hundreds of homes in both Paducah and Reidland. Mr. Fisher served as the 2nd President of the Home Builders Association of Western Kentucky in 1962 and again as its President in 1963, 1967, and 1968. His leadership continued as he served his chosen industry as both National and State Director and Kentucky Home Builder State President in 1969. In 1971, Mr. Fisher was appointed by Senator Walter "Dee" Huddleston to serve as Chairman for the Wendell Ford for Governor Committee in McCracken County. On a local level, Mr. Fisher served as Chairman of the Park & Recreation Board; the Planning and Zoning Committee and served as Paducah City Commissioner in 1970-72. Many young boys of yesterday, now men today, who participated in baseball and football remember Mr. Fisher for his sponsorships and support of both the Khoury and Colt Leagues. In 1962-64 he served as President of the Paducah Tilghman High School Boosters Club; was a board member of the Paducah Tilghman Parent Teachers Association; and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Mr. Fisher is a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge 127, past member of the Paducah Jaycees, Optimist Club and Paducah Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters of Local Union 184.

Survived by his wife of 64 years, Alice Louise Mitchell Fisher; his daughters, Randa Dawson of Franklin, Tenn., and Debbie Fisher of Missoula, Mont.; grandchildren, Dana L. Pagel (Tim) of Franklin, Tenn., Mitchell Fisher Dawson (Holli) of Thompson Station, Tenn., Jennifer Clary (Heather) of Missoula, Mont., and Robert "Bobby" Clary (Sarah) of Shelby, Mont.; great-grandchildren, Chelsea Lee Pagel, Madalyn Grace Dawson, Jackson Troy Dawson, Jori Lynn Clary and Hadley Marie Clary. Also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Randall and Carole Mitchell and Jack and Bettye Mitchell. Many loving nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by parents, Nolan and Marie Fisher; father and mother-in-marriage, Troy and Ava Mitchell; and brother and sister-in-law Nolan and Doris Fisher.

A Remembrance and Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11 a.m. Friday at Milner and Orr Funeral Home of Paducah with Rev. Paul H. Donner officiating.

Following the Remembrance Service, the family will receive friends at the Courtyard Marriott (3835 Technology Drive, Paducah). Private interment at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens will precede the service with grandsons and nephews serving as pallbearers.
