Eugene Halstead

February 25, 1925 — November 29, 2010

MELBER - Funeral services for Eugene Halstead, 85, of Melber will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 2, 2010, at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home with the Rev. Denver Hammonds officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Halstead died at 9:44 a.m. Monday at his home.

Born in Carlisle County, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War ll, having served in Europe with the 480th Ambulance Squad. Near the end of the war, he was captured by Germans and was a POW for a brief time. He was also a member of New Concord Baptist Church. Mr. Halstead worked as a supervisor at the Clausner Hosiery Mill in Paducah and later worked for the Paducah City School System.

Mr. Halstead is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia May Deweese Halstead; two sons, Steve Leonard Halstead and his wife, Judy, of Melber and Bruce Lynn Halstead and his wife, Melissa, also of Melber. He is also survived by six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Pearl Walker Halstead Jackson, and his stepfather, Joe Jackson.

Friends may visit with the family from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, December 1, 2010, at the Lone Oak Chapel of Milner & Orr Funeral Home.
