D.F. "Pete" Joyce, age 87, of Paducah passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2007, at the home of his daughter, Iris Hines. He was surrounded by his loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren at his side.
Pete was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Philippines during World War II, and was a member of Highland Baptist Church. He was a retired farmer and served as McCracken County Deputy Jailer for eight years. He later served as a deputy sheriff of McCracken County for 12 years. He was a Master Mason of Symsonia Masonic Lodge No. 917 for 65 years.
Pete leaves behind his family and a host of friends: four children, Sandra (Jack) Abernathy, and Iris (Sammy) Hines, both of Paducah, Helen June (Ralph) Mitchell of Mayfield, and one son, William (Teresa) Joyce of Paducah; one sister, Naomi Copeland of Paducah; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Ella Mae McCloud Joyce; one son, Ronnie Gene Joyce; one grandson, Samuel Martin "Marty" Hines; two brothers; and two sisters. His parents were Sanford Riely Joyce and Bertie Mae Chambers Joyce of Trigg County.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 27, 2007, at Keeling Family Funeral Home, 2410 Jackson St., Paducah, with the Rev. Richard Beck officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2007, at the funeral home, where the Masonic service will be at 7.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Lourdes Hospice, 2855 Jackson St., Paducah, KY 42003.
