Boyd Bell

January 20, 1921 — June 12, 2014

Born in Graves County,KY on January 20, 1921,Boyce Bell peacefully passed away at age 93 on June 12, 2014. He lived all of his life in Mayfield, KY. He married Mary Jeanette Wyatt, who lived in the same neighborhood, and they raised their children and made a wonderful life in Mayfield. Boyce and Jeanette would have celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary this October and knew each other their entire lives.

Mr. Bell valiantly served his country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army. Twice wounded during his time in Africa and Italy, he received a Purple Heart and other various medals for his service.

A talented general contractor, he did a job he loved for 60 years; the last 30 working alongside his son. He built homes all over Mayfield and loved to take his grandchildren on long drives to point out the houses and talk about who he built them for. He was a true professional that took great pride in his work.

A man of great faith, he was a long-time member of High Point Baptist Church, where he had many wonderful friends.

Boyce Bell was a kind and gentle soul who liked helping others. He enjoyed tinkering in the garage and he could fix anything. He would spend hours outside enjoying the sun and walking around his garden. He loved a good practical joke and card games with friends. He also enjoyed the time he spent with friends at the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion in Mayfield.

He was predeceased by his parents, Boyd and Oma Bell, and his two brothers, Harold and Gerald. He is survived by his wife, Jeanette and son Richard, of Mayfield; sister Mary Lee Herring of Mayfield; daughter Judy Cunningham and her husband Allen of Nanticoke, MD; three grandchildren and their spouses: Christopher Cunningham;(Lehua) of Wilmington, DE; Emily C u n n i n g h am ( Tim Winstead) of Rehoboth Beach, DE; and Andrew Cunningham (Sarah) of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by his great granddaughters, Olivia & Eliza Winstead and Georgia Cunningham. He had the opportunity to spend time with all three of them and they brought such joy to his life.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at South Gate Rehabilitation Center in Metropolis, IL for taking such good care of Boyce over the last two years.
